What an exciting evening!

Last Friday a big event took place in Basel - big for me at least. It was the first ever exhibition of my crocheting work, but not my own exhibition, not just yet. My crocheted sweater and a hat were on display among ten other pieces representing various techniques, from painting and drawing, to sculpture, photography and ceramics.

Ten women creators put together their art and craft to express their different experiences of emigration. Each of us, from own perspective, could say so much without saying anything. Our work spoke for itself and started the conversation with the people who came to Galerie LOKAL and the opening event.

I am so proud to be able to show what at first looks like an ordinary piece of clothing, yet has become so much more meaningful. I could voice my feelings of ten years living in Switzerland through crocheting, which was also surprising to me.

I would never imagined that crocheting would bring me so close to art. I used to aspire to study at the Academy of Art and Design in Wroclaw (Poland), in a completely different discipline, but it never worked out. I guess I gave up after being rejected the first time. I didn't believe I could try again and succeed. Now, 20 years later, I was able to turn my “boring” hobby into something worthy of an exhibition. I’m so grateful for that.

The exhibition will be open by May 20, 2025 and I warmly invite you to visit it. There will be one more event on May 17 to celebrate the closing of the exhibition. Feel free to follow me on Instagram to stay up to date.
