(Don’t) get started
My first attempts at crocheting were simple, careless, I didn't even notice. I spent a lot of time at my grandparents' house in the countryside. I was not a fun of kindergarten, to say the least, especially the milk soup. My increasing stomach aches almost every morning were a sign to my mom that it was time for a little break. That was when I would go there, to my safe place.
I would spend all days watching my grandparents working around the house and their animals, like chickens and cows. Eventually I would know how to collect eggs, milk a cow or even make cottage cheese or butter. And then, in between all these chores, there was crocheting. My grandma would grab a piece of yarn and a hook when she saw a need for new kitchen cloths or something else useful around the house. Just like that, without much thinking. And I would observe with curiosity.
One day I asked my grandma to teach me. She showed me two main stitches, chain stitch and single crochet. Of course I didn't know the names back then. But I was fascinated by the process. I just sat there and tried it over and over again. She didn't have time to help me with my first creations. They were not very successful, by the way, but I was so into it that I kept trying to perfect them. Later, when my grandma finally noticed what I was doing, she had the most amazing reaction. She was surprised that I hadn't given up and had actually done something. It made me feel proud and encouraged me to do more.
It went on from there. I have had my waves of crochet throughout my life, at school, when I was working full time, when I was unemployed, when I was single and married. Each phase brought something new, maybe a new technique to discover, or maybe just a new yarn to try. But it has all brought me to this day.
While I can't be such a grandma to you, I can still show you how to get started with your first crochet stitches during an individual online session. All you need to do is sign up and show up. These sessions are free for now. While I refine my online set-up and teaching skills, you can benefit from my carefully developed crochet knowledge. This offer will end at some point, not sure when, but for now it's here waiting for you. So don't hesitate and book now.
